Class Schedule

Binding Basics
Instructor: Cynthy Kram
Class Date & Time:  Thursday, Sept 9 - 6:00 to 8:30 pm
Class Fee: $30

Learn to apply straight binding to your quilt in a painless
and efficient way. We will talk about other methods
for finishing your quilt, such as bias cut binding and prairie
points. Take the mystery out of binding.

Block Butler
Instructor: Sherie Thomas
Class Date & Time: Saturday, Oct 16 - 10:30 am to 3:00 pm
Class Fee: $35

Create a handy and flat tote to store and transport your blocks
in progress. The 20" size is large enough to handle most blocks and
if you use flannel on the inside it can double as a portable design wall.

Boston Logs
Instructor: Betty Jordan
Class Date & Time: Saturday, Oct 23 - 10 am to 2 pm
Class Fee: $45

Dig through your stash and pull out those light and dark
fat quarters to create this fun and easy quilt! Stack 'em,
Slash 'em, Switch 'em and Stitch 'em up to make this unique
"Crazy Style" Boston Log Cabin. As long as you have a good
contrast between light and dark, almost any design on the
fabric will look great. The sample was made with light and
dark floral fabrics and finishes at 66".
Pattern Required

Buggy Barn Way

"Celebration of American Life"
Applique' Block of the Month
Instructor: Sherie Thomas

Join us as we create the "Celebration of American Life" quilt.
Sherie has studied many different methods of applique' and will share
an appropriate favorite one each month as we
create a block of the quilt. By learning different methods you will be prepared to approach your own blocks with different and easier (quicker) options. You don't have to do tons of prep work. She will also prepare a full size enlargement for each block so that you will be ready to stitch.
Make new friends too as we progress.

"Crazy" Quilt Blocks
Instructor: Jenny Christensen
Class Date & Time: Saturday, Nov 20 - 10 am to 2 pm
Class Fee: $35

Have you ever wondered how those "crazy" quilt blocks are
made? Using muslin as your base, you will create your own
unique crazy quilt block. There are no points to match and a
1/4 inch seam allowance is a general guideline, not an exact
requirement. By the end of the class you will have a completed
12 1/2 inch block, and we will touch on some basic embroidery
stitches, including a stitched spider web for good luck.

Double Wedding Ring
Instructor: Cynthy Kram
Class Date & Time: Tuesday, Oct 12 & Nov 16 - 6:00 to 9:00 pm
Class Fee: $45

This beautiful traditional quilt can seem intimidating but using
the precise templates from Quilting in the Heartland makes this
much easier to put together. In class we will learn how to cut and
piece arcs and circles together to make your quilt.

Hand Quilting

Put a lovely finishing touch on your quilts with hand quilting!
Sherie has many hints and tools that will help you enjoy the
process from marking, basting and stitching. Your practice
piece can be turned into a bag or pillow top if you desire. There
is even proof that hand quilting increases the serotonin level in
our brains and relaxes us!

Hawaiian Style Applique' (By Machine)
Instructor: Sherie Thomas
Class Date & Time: Saturday, Oct 30 - 10:30 am to 3:30 pm

Then join us for this workshop where we will be learning the
basics for getting the fabric the right size, getting it aligned up
correctly and all the other "mysteries" involved in doing paper
piecing. No pressure as we will be working with "practice" blocks
and fabrics so you can understand how to do it before you take
on a full quilt project. Join us for this relaxed and informative
workshop to lean this great technique.

Pieces offers sewing machine rental available for class use.

One Block Wonder Encore
Instructor: Betty Jordan
Class Date & Time: Saturday, Nov 13 - 10 am to 4 pm
Class Fee: $45

Or is it Cubed? Join us as we explore the next step to the
One Block Wonder wonder! In this class, students will learn the

or can stand alone as dynamic wall-hangings.

One Block Wonder - Hexagons
Instructor: Betty Jordan
Class Date & Time:  Saturday,
Class Fee: $45

Have lots of fun while you create this very unique quilt. In
class we will learn how to create a kaleidoscopic watercolor
using hexagons and one fabric! Hexogons! Don't be afraid....
no hand piecing, no set in seams, just straight seams! We
will use a "stack -n- cut" technique to create our hexagons and
then have a lot of fun making and arranging them into a
unique design. Book required.
Sign up early - class is limited to eight students.

Summer Wheat (or Mini Lone Stars)

Instructor: Cynthy Kram
Class Date & Time: Saturday, Nov 6 - 10 am to 2 pm
Class Fee: $35

I love the Lone Star quilts, but a bed size can be difficult
to manage. Reducing the size to a mini Lone Star makes them
managable. We will be rotary cutting and strip piecing our
Lone Stars together plus learning about Y intersections.

Winding Ways
Instructor: Sherie Thomas
Class Date & Time: Saturday, Nov 6 - 10:30 am to 3:00 pm
Class Fee: $45

Wind your ways with gentle curves across your quilt. This is
made simple with the use of acrylic templates to make the
cutting simple and Sherie's special techniques to stitch
the curves. You will no longer need to fear curved seams
with these techniques. Use 2 fabrics, or several fabrics
of two colors, to create the illusion of complex circles. It
is really easier than it looks.

Wool Dying

Instructor: Sherie Thomas
Class Date & Time: Saturday, Oct 9 - 10:30 am to 1:30 pm
Class Fee: $35

Come and learn Sherie's unique method for hand-dying wool.
Start with cream wool, apply the dye and watch the colors blend.
The result is a piece of wool with several colors or just a few....you're
the creator. Sherie takes the wool home for a slow dry and steam,
and then returns it to you ready for your next applique' project.

"WOOL SHADES"
Applique' Block of the Month
Instructor: Sherie Thomas

starting in Sept - 6:00 to 9:00 pm
OR 4th thursday of the month,
starting in Sept - 10:30 to 1:30 pm

Class Fee: $30 per quarter or $100 for 12 months

Based on the "Shades of Baltimore – Summer" by Stacey Michelle we will create our own version in wool. If you would like to use hand dyed wool, some will be available at Pieces and/or you can dye your own in our August wool dying class. This is a fun and simple quilt that makes a great take along project and dynamic visual statement!
